Beautiful  and rare palm wood carving, in the form of a lion, from the New Kingdom period of ancient Egypt, between 1550 and 1070 BCE. An incredible, albeit crude depiction of a lion, showing details of hair in the mane, soft details in the face and eyes, an open mouth and tongue and muscular body structure throughout. Loss with missing front limbs over times often found in Egyptian figures of this age. Dotting and nubble of palm wood still present throughout the entirety of the figure. An incredible and rare survivor of this form.

Provenance: from the renowned collection of Barcelona collector Marti Mas Tubau.
