Stunning large late Viking battleaxe of incredible scale and presence, circa late 11th - early 12th century. Very large battleaxe head for the period and style, featuring wear and use patterning throughout, iron has acquired a harsh yet beautiful patina, designed with a broad blade and flat peen. On a later, but still early wooden haft, with characteristic bend below the head. A stunning example displayed on a swan neck stand.
