Beautiful wooden sarcophagus mask of the Third Intermediate Period (1070 - 664 BCE) of ancient Egypt featuring minimal but extremely effective remnants of painted decoration - especially in makeup detailing surrounding the eyes. Retaining lovely shape and sculptural presence in both facial and wig regions, this is a beautiful example that both shows the craftsmanship of ancient Egyptian culture and carries the emotional weight of character developed over millennia. Displayed on contemporary metal stand.
Provenance: from large Toronto collection of antiquities.
