Incredible mensurshläger sword from Heidelberg University, Germany. Beautiful iron basket guard surrounding wooden handle before long iron pointed blade.

Academic fencing or mensur was a tradition in universities during the 17th to 19th centuries in which male students often duelled, with the victor inflicting a smite or slice in the defeated’s face. The third reich outlawed academic fencing, as it was seen as integral to the internal strength of student fraternity - after which comradeships were founded to create underground space for continued mensur activity as protest.
