An incredibly beautiful 16th century French renaissance main gauche of left hand dagger with intricate gothic silver inlay design and beautiful shell shaped hilt. A left hand dagger, or parrying dagger was meant to be held in the non dominant hand in battle, giving the ability to parry or deflect attacks while wielding an often matched rapier. This incredible example, likely a show piece for a man of wealth or rank, is beautiful in form and design, visually stunning and crafted with impeccable precision. The shell shaped hilt, also covered in silver inlay, sits above the hand in a tremendous fashion. Massive in scale for a dagger, the blade itself, with silver inlay running through half of the length, features a well fashioned fuller and sharp point. Beautiful as it is visceral, this example is something special to be seen and held. Displayed on included contemporary stand.
