Important and museum quality example of a Celtic stone head with a high level of definition still present circa 5th - 3rd Century BCE. This piece is likely depicting a man of high rank, a Druid. This beautiful head shows great definition in the carving of its almond shaped eyes beneath a defined brow ridge, a well shown nose above the most beautifully carved moustache, a defining feature of the high ranking celts. A well carved mouth and sectioned hair line are also featured. This piece is of true rarity and is of quality often only found in museum setting.

This head is stylistically similar to the famous head found in the Czech village Mšecke Zehrovice. The cults held a deep reverence for the head, as they believed it held the soul, and held strong spiritual power against evil. The Celtic head cult was a widespread movement throughout Celtic Europe, where stone heads were carved as replacements for heads lost in battle. A beautiful early example of apotropaic folklore created through incredible craftsmanship. Displayed atop contemporary metal stand.
