An intensely beautiful Etruscan cinerary urn depicting the goddess of fertility, abundance, fate and chance, Fortuna, above a funeral procession of 10 figures. Made of solid terracotta and decorated in early and now deeply faded polychrome. This example is incredibly fine, showing beautiful detail throughout. The veil and fabric draping over Fortuna folds and flows with such incredible movement while she carries a cornucopia as well as a mirror. A very heavy example of utterly solid terracotta.
From the collection of notable Italian archaeologist Vittorio Bernardi, with collection document included, dated 1982, previously acquired from Italian collector, 1903.
