Originates from: Southern Mesopotamia, Iraq
Circa: Jemdet Nasr Period, 3100 - 2900 BCE
Dimensions: 2.75cm H x 1.5cm Ø
Incredibly beautiful black steatite cylinder seal dating to the pre-dynastic Jemdet Nasr period (3100 - 2900 BCE) of Ancient Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq. Engraved with foliage across, stunning preservation, with two suspension holes on the top and a carved X into the bottom of the seal. Used as personal signature, ownership marker or to seal documents, often worn as jewelry or amulet strung within the suspension holes, this is an incredibly fine and very early example.
Provenance: from old Florida collection, last sold through New York gallery sale.
