Monsieur Paul Scarron, born in 1610 was a prolific author born in Paris. He contracted polio at the age of 28 and became severely crippled. Despite this, he became a very successful writer, adapting novellas and plays from Spanish literature. Le Romant Comiqur is considered Scarron’s master work, a comedy about a troupe of actors and their adventures - written between 1651 and 1657. 

Printed by the Amsterdam printer Abraham Wolfgang, shown by his device, a tree with bees nest and fox, who was active between 1658 and 1694. Dutch artist and engraver Jan Veenhuysen, who also worked on this book, was active between 1656 and 1685. 

A beautiful master work of early printing bound in a beautiful vellum with legible “Romant” in ink on the spine.
