Beautiful terracotta jug featuring geometric ladder designs around the circumference of the body from the Luristan Empire, circa 800 BCE, situated surround the Zagros Mountain region of western Iran. Stunningly toned terracotta, with painted designs that wrap around the entirety of the body, before a lovely shaped handle. Incredibly well preserved and of a lovely scale. A gorgeous example of utilitarian pottery of the Luristan empire.
Provenance: from a New York gallery, previously a 1960’s Floridian collection, purchased in London art market.
