A stunning and intriguing example of a Neolithic era altar implement depicting a beak-faced figure carved of basalt stone, circa 4000 - 3000 BCE, from the region of modern day Turkey or Syria. A stunningly textured basalt with incredibly emotive features, carved eyes, a nose, broken off at the bulb, a crown carved in the round - with its most striking featuring being its elongated, beak like face. Likely an implement mounted surrounding a stone ritual altar. A beautifully striking and truly evocative carving, speaking to the rituals of the Neolithic world. Displayed on contemporary acrylic stand.
