A beautiful and rare Ptolemaic period (305 - 30 BCE) terracotta statuette mold of the reverse side of Hapi, the baboon deity, one of the four sons of Horus, protector of the lungs in the afterlife. Hapi was often depicted on the lid of Canopic jars but was often also made as a funerary figure. This is a beautiful and rare example of a piece that helped define the stylistic and culture through artistic depiction, an antiquity that created antiquities.
the Ptolemaic period, founded by Greek general to Alexander the Great, Ptolemy I Soter, lasted from 305 - 30 BCE, until the fall of Cleopatra VII, know for the blending of Hellenistic and Egyptian culture. It fell to growing Roman power in 30 BCE.
