An incredibly fine and very rare example of a Black Schist Offering Plate from the Naqada II period of predynastic ancient Egypt, 3500 - 3200 BCE. This beyond uncommon plate would have been placed within a tomb and held funerary offerings of food, drink or cosmetics to accompany the deceased and offer sustenance on their journey into the long after. Evidence of carved nature of the bowl across the back, but overall, an incredible surface across both the face and reverse. An old repair to a crack present, but repaired solidly. In hand, a stunningly magnetic object.
From large Canadian collection of antiquities, purchased at Drouot, Paris, 2014. Prior, a large French collection started in 1960’s.
