Incredible 11th century illuminated depiction of Christ In Majesty on rough vellum fragment. An incredibly crude and naive depiction showing Christ seated in a throne, as ruler of the world, flanked by a pair of angels. Bright silver dots surround Christ’s halo, drawing the eye heavily to this.
The vellum on this fragment has a rough verso, not prepared for use, this may have been a fragment of a larger piece, as seen by the later vellum repair in the top corner. This very rare and early piece echoes art of the Middle Ages and speaks volumes to the history of art as a whole.
Set floating within a contemporary frame to show off the imperfection of the vellum fragment as a whole.
