Beautiful sandstone saint, holding a staff and adorned in a cloak, Romanesque in style and period, dating to the latter half of the 12th century. A brilliant rough and crude carving with minimal weathering over time to the carving itself, although the sandstone has obtained an incredible patina throughout both the front and the back of the figure. Simplistic and crude clothing and extremity features accent the brilliant and exaggerated features of the face create a feeling of odd imperfection but also true mastery of carving in this style.
