Beautiful French renaissance limestone head, dating to the 16th century. A stunning head, carved in the round, likely originally a statuary piece, weathered to an incredible patina. Although many details have been lost to wear and time, the remaining details that have endured show extremely well, specifically the eyes and the full head of hair encompassing the sculpture’s entire circumference. A lovely example of French renaissance sculpture during a period of turmoil and transformation.
