17th century Bellarmine or Bartmann Jug into the gallery. Adorned with the folkloric wild man of the woods or Wodewose’ face as well as a medallion with unknown depiction.

During the 17th Century, these bottles were often employed as witch bottles, often filled with various instruments of spell, hair, nails, teeth and bones and later buried as forms of both curse or for means of benefit.

This piece, atypical due to its lack of salt glazing, and large size is an incredible and rare example.
