Aramaic Incantation Bowl on Stand

Dimensions: 8” H x 6.75” Ø x 3” D 

Incredible Aramaic incantation or demon trap bowl dating to between the 3rd and 5th centuries, AD. Stunning repeated character placed in the surrounding, down towards the centre of the bowl with female figure, presumed as the figure meant to be trapped in the bowl depicted in the centre of the bowl. These bowls would have been placed underneath floorboards or within doorways to the home with apotropaic intent to trap evil spirits or entities before they could enter the home, with the figure depicted on the interior as the figures intended on trapping. Early loss on the exterior rim of the bowl, but stable and beautiful condition elsewhere.
