Beautiful and rare Celtic shortsword from the European Iron Age era La Tène culture, found in Austria. Incredibly heavy forged iron construction with textured iron blade and typical of the culture curled handle end. Wonderful scale, at just over 18” in length. The tang would have originally been wrapped in leather for comfortable holding, with a tapered blade for use, either in battle, as utility tool, or both. Incredibly beautiful craftsmanship as a rare example of early weaponry.
Provenance: private Swiss collection, last purchased in the 1960’s
