Bobbin Darvel chair by maker John McMath, circa 1850, made of Ash and Oak wood. The Darvel chair is the Scottish relative to the English Windsor chair, prominently made by only four makers in Darvel, Scotland - this example with McMath’s name stamped on the underside. There is thought to be less than 100 of these style chairs surviving today. The truly wonderful patina on this chair, accenting the beautiful carving throughout creates such a deep atmosphere surrounding this piece.
