Absolutely incredible and very scarce early 17th century iron strongbox or “armada chest”, originating from Nuremberg, Germany. Originally built as a box to store valuables, money, an early safe - this chest, fully built of heavy iron, strapped, with a false front floral designed escutcheon, hidden top keyhole, built with utility and safety in mind exists as much on that plane as it does a beautiful piece of historic significance. Magnificent locking mechanism under the lid, hidden behind the most beautiful cut and designed and etched iron plate. One of the most beautiful and incredibly built pieces we have ever had the pleasure of bringing into the gallery.
