Used as a votive offering, placed in a tomb or grave, this piece would have been given to accompany the deceased into the afterlife, likely as an offering of health as it is known that carrots in Egypt of this period were mostly used medicinally as a treatment for the sick. Royal tombs often held wall paintings of carrot or similar vegetable harvests and also show evidence or plants being placed inside as offerings.

Carved of cedar wood with remnants of original gesso and paint throughout.
