A beautiful and scarce Gallo-Roman bronze figure of Telesphorus, the Greek child-god of healing. Telesphorus, always depicted as a dwarf figure covered in cowl hood or cape, this figure featuring stunning grotesque facial features and evocative flowing cape covering the entirety of his body. Likely a Celtic god in origin who was taken to Anatolia by the Galatians in the 3rd Century BCE and taken west by the Romans around the 2nd century AD, where he was associated with the Genius Cucullatus or hooded spirits often associated with Romano Celtic art from the period.

A scarce Gaulish example, beautiful in form and grotesque in feature. Displayed on contemporary stand.
