A very beautiful Ionian Magna Graecia Kylix or drinking cup of stunning thrown form, concave pedestal foot with a single loop handle remaining, Greece, 6th century BCE. Typically characteristic of Ionian pottery is the bichrome finish which shows a banded black glaze surrounding the bottom half and tonto or interior of the cup, leaving exposed the unglazed upper - a stunning contrast. A missing handle and some break to the foot, although overall in lovely condition.
Kylix were wide formed drinking cups typically used for social gatherings or symposia.
