Incredible mid 17th century Italian renaissance iron stiletto dagger featuring distinctive slim triangular blade, designed to pierce armour and clothing, making the style extremely popular with knights as a misericorde or mercy weapon. These weapons became iconic in the late 15th century in Northern Italy for both combat and fashion. The hilt of this stiletto dagger features beautiful fragmented sections, and fits so perfectly in hand. Likely made for an artillery officer, circa 1660, northern Italy. Displayed on contemporary stand.
