Large Anglo Saxon Seax Dagger Blade on Acrylic Base

A stunning Seax dagger blade from Anglo Saxon England, circa 8th - 10th century AD. A full iron blade with included large iron tang on this large and incredibly evocative example. An incredible scale with the 10” long blade as a whole, having acquired an incredible and textured patina throughout. 

A Seax was a single edged fighting dagger or short sword, typically held by the Germanic people of the migration period, including the Saxons - who took their name from these blades. Seax, plainly, comes from the old English word for knife.   

From a large Canadian collection of Roman English and Celtic Antiquities, acquired in 1980’s. Displayed on contemporary acrylic base.
