A stunning and large scale Daunian ceramic shallow dish, decorated with ochre pigmented concentric circles, typical of Daunian motif, circa 6th - 5th century BCE. Old repair from several large fragments. A stunning display piece, showing an almost modernist sense of design. Two small suspension holes present, used to hang dish for ritual, or more likely display as a form of storage.

The Daunians were a tribe living in the Daunia region of Northern Apulia, Italy. Daunia, as a name, is connected to the word for wolf, possible a totem of this tribe. They had a very peculiar style of art and culture, separating from many of the tribes more influenced by Campanian civilization, exemplified in a lot of their pottery, as well as funerary art.
