An incredibly expressive and enigmatic portrait showcasing Dobson’s flowing hair and period-trending moustache. Dobson gained commission from Charles I after Anthony Van Dyk’s passing, and during the English civil war, forced to be based with the royal court at Oxford, painted many leading cavaliers. A well preserved 17th century painting of a prominent artist who died in poverty at only 35 years old. Housed in custom frame.

Provenance: Ex Prominent Ontario Collector, Ex Small Ontario Museum Collection

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0548/8702/2726/files/5E310BE4-07B4-486E-AA08-720A5C1FF22B.jpg?v=1782475300
