An incredible survivor, this beautiful papyrus scroll, dating to the late Ptolemaic period (305 - 30 BCE), exhibiting demotic script, an early Egyptian writing system used for administrative and commercial purpose as shorthand to hieroglyphs has newly arrived to the gallery. Rolled in scroll form, not unfurled for millennia. As much a piece of linguistic history as it is an object of incredible intrigue and beauty. Displayed stood up on contemporary metal stand.
