From Amarna, Egypt, dating to the New Kingdom period, 1550 - 1070 BCE, this terracotta mold used to create tiles or inlaid wall decorations for temple use in the form of a cobra’s head. A lovely example, still showing detail within the mold itself. A large and expressive example, looking behind the process of creating the iconography for one of history’s great civilizations.
