Extremely rare and beautiful Norman English grotesque facepuller sandstone sculpture, dating to the early 12th century. A very rare form, with two arms pulling at his own face - likely an allegory for gluttony. Originally an architectural element, this sculpture is a rare survivor of this form and is extremely stunning - in it’s own way. Standing on a contemporary base.
