A stunning and rare example of a bronze statuette bust of the Baal from the Phoenician culture of the eastern Mediterranean coast of the Levant region, circa 1200 - 600 BCE. Baal was recognized as one of the primarily revered deities of the culture, although the term Ba’al was a general term meaning “lord”, serving as the title for varied regional deities - this likely a representation of Baal-Hadad, god of storms and a fertility, as often those presences linked. 

Depicted wearing a bullhorn helmet, this half bust shows extremely well with an impeccable patina throughout. A beautiful and sculptural presence detailing Iron Age worship practices.
