A stunning example of a Roman amphora, built of early terracotta, dating between the 1st and 3rd century. A nice and scarce example of a vessel absolutely emblematic of the Roman Empire. Originally used as storage or transport vessels for oils, wine, or other higher value goods, often taken upon ships to transport across ports. Two loop handles used both as carrying mechanism but also as a means of fastening for transport via rope. A beautiful vessel, very symbolic of the Roman Empire.
