Beautiful and crude example of a stone idol figure from the Iron Age Talaiotic culture of the Spanish Balearic Islands of Mallorca and Menorca. This figure representing a deity was used in pedestrian worship within the community of the Talaiotic people, made around the late 2nd millennium BCE. While evidence of a localized Bull god is present, there has also been evidence found of foreign deity worship within the culture, after a Taula, or worship structure, was found with the name of “Imhotep”, the Egyptian god of medicine and healing engraved. This haunting idol figure is a beautiful representation of ancient worship and is a rare survivor of Talaiotic art. Displayed on contemporary metal stand.
