Extremely rare Shrine of Henry VI pilgrim badge, dating to the late 15th to early 16th century showing King Henry VI holding an orb and sceptre, Henry’s heraldic symbols. The shrine was located at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor, and was a popular site for pilgrimage after Henry was put to death after the War of the Roses. People remembered his pious nature and viewed his death as martyrdom, and could view numerous relics of his at the shrine after his death until 1543 when the shrine was demanded due to the reformation. Still retaining its original backing pin to be worn (although not functional), this beautiful badge still retains incredible detail throughout the obverse.
